The
McGill Ftal Diagnosis and Treatment Group acts as a referral centre
for pregnant women at risk of having babies of congenital malformations
due to a family history, a history of exposure to teratogen, or an abnormality
detected at ultrasound. The centre functions as a multidisciplinary team
involving perinatologists, ultrasonographers, neonatologists, pediatric
surgeons, pathologists, genetic counsellors, and other specialists.
Diagnosis
of ftal anomaly in conjunction with genetic counselling ensures
comprehensive care to the patients who require information regarding treatment,
prognosis, and pregnancy management.
This
service operates on a physician referral basis to ensure adequate communication
of information between treating physician, patient and consultants.
A call
to our coordinator will ensure rapid assessment and coordination of care.
